Bangerter Foil – Occlusion Foil

5,70 excl. VAT

Bangerter foil (occlusive foil) of 6 x 6 cm. Available in different grades.

Clear

Bangerter foil (self-adhesive occlusion foil) for the treatment of amblyopia and strabismus as an alternative to the eye occlusion patch or frame with a blinker. By sticking the occlusion foil on the glasses, the difference between the dominant and weak eye can be equalized. Research has shown that gradually covering the good eye stimulates the weak eye. This stimulates the improvement of the eye and accelerates recovery.

Particularly suitable for the treatment of diplopia and in the end phase of the occlusion treatment. The Bangerter foils are also suitable for simulation and experience glasses.

Bangerter Foil close upThese Bangerter foils are made of thin vinyl and are comparable to the Fresnel prisms. However, the Bangerter occlusion foils are thinner than the Fresnel foils. The manufacturer of these films is Ryser Optik.

Size of the foil is 6 x 6 cm

Instruction for applying the foil

The film can be cut to size as desired and applied to the inside of the lens with water. Below is a brief instruction:

  • Cut the foil to the shape of the lens, 1 mm smaller so that the foil stays within the lens.
  • Clean and degrease the lens and also the shiny/ glossy side of the occlusion foil.
  • Place the foil on the wet inside of the lens, press it and let it dry until you no longer see air bubbles.
  • Leave for at least 1 hour to achieve desired degree of occlusion.

Available foils

The occlusion foils are available in the following degrees of light transmission (vision reductions):

  • 0.0 lightperception (LP, no sight but with light perception)
  • <0.1 (20/300)
  • 0.0 (full occlusive, no sight and no light perception)
  • 0.1 (20/200)
  • 0.2 (20/100)
  • 0.3 (20/70)
  • 0.4 (20/50)
  • 0.6 (20/30)
  • 0.8 (20/25)
  • 1.0 (20/20)

If we look at the strengths, the lower the strength/density of the foil, the less visibility. The foil with 1.0 therefore lets the most light through and the foil with <0.1 the least light.

Light perception (LP) is the perception of light but no sight. At 0.0 no light/vision can be observed at all, it is completely occlusive. If we put this in a table with the expected vision, it comes down to the following:

Grading of Foil and Expected Visual Acuity

Density of Foil Snellen Visual Acuity
1.0 20/20
0.8 20/25
0.6 20/30
0.4 20/40
0.3 20/80
0.2 20/100
0.1 20/200
<0.1 <20/300
LP No sight but light perception
00 No sight, no light
